Two Gentlemen from New York
Sunday at Yankee Stadium, Hideki Matsui was honored by being allowed to retire as a Yankee. A few minutes later, Derek Jeter returned to the lineup by hitting a home run with the first pitch thrown to him.
It was a story book moment that could have not been scripted better. What made it special were these two men – they are true gentlemen who go about doing their jobs modestly making everything they do a credit to the game, their team mates, fans and themselves.
A postscript was Mariano Rivera getting three quick outs in the top of the ninth and Alfonso Soriano driving in the walk-off winning run.
First-class people in a first-class organization… and I was privileged to be there.
A lesson, here, is that it is not enough to be great at what you do; you also have to be a great person with a good and strong character.
How Can We Help?
